Periodontal Regeneration

Before, treatment of periodontitis could only arrest the progression of the disease. Today, a new treatment is available: guided tissue regeneration .

Bone loss due to gum disease results in gum recession, tooth loss, bad breath, and an unaesthetic smile. Until recently, periodontal treatment has only been able to halt the progress of the disease - often only temporarily. It is now possible to regain these lost tissues and reclaim your smile. The process is called: guided tissue regeneration (GTR).

The idea of GTR is to cover the bony defect with a barrier that prevents gingival tissues from growing a scar in the defect next to the tooth. In this way, a space (or tent) is created over the defect in the bone. The cells from the bone and the ligament around the tooth grow to fill up this space under the tent. You regrow your bone around your teeth.
